How did you two meet?
We have known each other for about 17 years. We ran into each other at a home football game in the fall of 2011. He was there with his kids to watch the game. I was there with my kids to watch my oldest son march for the pre-game and halftime shows. We ended up talking for the entire second quarter. Instead of just watching a pretty great game, what we found instead was a connection we had never realized.
Describe the proposal.
Bill is very old-fashioned and wanted to ask my father’s permission. He wanted me there when he asked. So in that way, the proposal was not a surprise. What was a surprise was listening to Bill tell my parents that he knew what I had been through in the past and he promised them I would never go through that ever again. He gave them his word that with their blessing, he would always take care of me.
What was your favorite memory from your proposal?
When Bill actually got down on one knee and said, “Aimee, if you’ll have me, I want to be your husband. Will you marry me?” My father grinned from ear to ear, shook Bill’s hand, and my mother squealed like a 7 year old girl with a bowl of chocolate ice cream.
What do you love most about each other?
Aimee: “What I love most about Billy are his blue eyes, his smile that lights a room, and his absolutely infectious laughter. Bill is a great listener (which is good because I love to talk), and you never know where our conversations will end up…I love his compassion for others. He is slow to anger and has the same passion for life that I do. Bill is very easy-going and finds humor in even the most serious situations. He truly makes me a better person just by being a part of my life, yet he gently allows me to be myself.”
Bill: “Aimee is as compassionate a person as I’ve ever been around. She is also a caveman’s woman…she does the grabbing of the hair and the dragging of the man. And when you finally get a chance to talk (usually the next day), it had better be quick because the conversation will quickly change subjects in the blink of an eye. She plays no games, and is straightforward, which I love. She’ll get loud and you’d better listen. She is the type that will shoot the gun first, then go look and see who’s laying on the floor.”
