How did you two meet? Tell us your story.
We met through someone we both knew, Susie, who introduced us via email. We were living in different parts of California at the time, and Susie lives in Texas, but she contacted us and asked if we’d be willing to meet. I (Andrew) drove down to LA for a weekend for another friend’s wedding, and we arranged to meet for lunch. I didn’t know any restaurants in a good halfway area, so I looked online and found one. The day came, and she arrived before I did, and called me to say that the restaurant was closed and had been for some time. Although it was a rough first date, we stayed in touch, and things worked out!
Describe the proposal.
It was a Sunday evening, and we planned to visit the beach and have dinner afterward. I had the ring, but hadn’t decided on whether to propose at the beach, at dinner afterward, or after dinner. The beach was crowded, and there wasn’t a good setting, so we went to dinner afterward, but things still weren’t quite right.
My place is on a hill, and there’s a concrete walking path that leads to a spot with a park bench that has a beautiful view of the city. So we walked up the path, but saw another couple already on the park bench. So I suggested we walk up a hiking trail to the top of the hill to see the view from there. Using our cell phones for light, we slowly made our way up, though I soon realized that her shoes weren’t great ones for hiking. We got to the top, but heard the voices of a group of college students talking. I wanted to see if they would leave, but it took a little while before I realized they were up there to drink, and were going to be there a while longer. So we walked down a different, easier path back to my place. We sat outside and rested just outside by the lawn, and below the moon and stars, I knelt and proposed.
