How did you two meet, tell us your story:
Ironically the day we meet was not very “fairytale-ish”, I would have never imagined meeting my future husband the way we meet. We ended up being seated at the same table the whole evening due to our very social friends (who at the time had never meet each other before) We actually never really spoke that whole night except when our groups of friends were saying good bye. Call it the universe pushing us together, but I all the sudden asked for his phone number…to this day I have no idea why I did it, but it was one of the best random acts I have ever done! And after numerous coffee dates and a wonderful boyfriend that tended to his flu struck girlfriend most people would say we have fallen in love and the rest is in our blissfully wedded rings!
Describe the proposal: He proposed on his birthday actually, right in front of the court house. We had always had a running joke about just going to the Courthouse one day and getting married. But to tie a twist into the whole day, me thinking I was being sneaky had planned a surprise birthday party for him. Well he flipped it around, so after he proposed he still had one more surprise waiting, his “surprise birthday party” had turned into birthday/ engagement party! All our friends and family were there to celebrate his birthday and our engagement! It was such a blast! We couldn’t have asked for a better memory for that day.
What was your favorite memory from your proposal?
Its funny so many people ask you ” how did he propose” I never stopped to think of my favorite memory. I would have to say seeing that little box open, him unable to mutter any words and just looking at him knowing that everything we had was going to be forever, that he wanted to be my forever and I wanted to be his. It all happened in a matter of seconds but its a memory that is unforgettable.
What have you learned over your years of marriage?
That there is no Me or I, only Us. And you must protect it, worship and nurture it. That it will always be work and some days will be better than others. But at the end of the day to be with that person everyday who unconditionally loves and cares for you is one of lifes greatest feelings and it makes it worth every bit of work you do.
What advice do you have for folks currently planning a vow renewal?
Have fun! On wedding days there is so much stress/ excitement it’s hard not to get whirlwinded into the whole thing. Ask any bride and groom about their wedding day and one of the first things they will say is how quickly it went. Enjoy your first dance again and the cake you didn’t really get to eat!, Relive all those memories in slow motion while you create even more memories the 2nd time!
What was your most memorable moment about your vow renewal?
Standing next to the beautiful river bed. We loved it so much because it can be so easy to get caught up in all the little things about planning an event of any kind, especially a wedding. It was a great reminder from nature that beautiful things are often the simple things in life. It was an incredible realization, that unlike our wedding, it was just him and I and our eternal commitment. And in that moment that we were standing there, we were reminded that it will always just be the two of us and our promises. And thats a beautiful thing.
What was your inspiration in planning you vow renewal?
We wanted be kinda selfish honestly, a lot of what we did at the wedding seemed to slowly evolve into what other people wanted and we also wanted memories where it was husband and wife. Not “Bride and Groom”. The renewal seemed to be perfect mix of those two things. We choose for it to be just the two of us, without any family or friends, just as husband and wife.
