Describe the proposal
Trevor lived in Cleveland, Ohio at the time, while I was still in school in Manhattan, Kan. He was back for a week. I had just walked in the door to my apartment from class when he announced we were going on a walk. But instead of walking down the road he wanted to go on a “nature walk.” Thinking this was odd behavior, I thought what the heck, I didn’t want to study anyways. So he drove out to the spot we first met and walked on a path. Once we got to a bench, I went ahead and sat down and when I turned around he was holding out the ring. Before he could say anything I just hugged him and held on. He asked me while we were hugging and of course I said yes. He then asked if I wanted to see the ring.
What was your favorite memory from your proposal?
The funny part about the proposal is two days before he claimed he went to hang out with a friend. I was actually kind of mad because we had dinner plans with my family. He got back to my apartment and I was ready to go and we hit the road to meet my parents and sister back home (about an hour away). On the road, I swore I saw my sister’s car in front of us. I kept telling Trevor to speed up to see if it was her, but he wouldn’t do it! He then proceeded to “call his mom” about an errand he was supposed to run for her. Well, he actually called my sister to pretty much tell her to speed up (in code, obviously). Turns out it was my sister and she was with Trevor picking out the ring!
What do you love most about each other?
Carrie: We will never be bored. Trevor has the ability to make friends with anyone and make any situation fun. I love his smile and his outlook in life. I know he will do anything for me and I feel blessed every day knowing God gave me such a wonderful man.
Trevor: I love her heart. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. But it’s pretty cute when she gets mad too.
What have you learned over your years of marriage?
Year one taught us a lot about each other. We both travel a lot and can get stressed out with our jobs. But the important thing is we come home to each other and know we are each others best friend, No. 1 fan, and true love.
