How did you two meet? Tell us your story.

We can’t ever seem to pin down the exact moment we met. We grew up together and have known one another as long as we can remember. Our grandpas were actually friends and used to play golf together at our hometown country club, sometimes, Amanda’s grandfather would assist Tyler’s grandfather’s at work at his electrician company. Then, our dad’s (Amanda & Tyler’s dads) eventually became classmates and even played on the same little league football team. So all that being said, we aren’t really sure of that one moment when we were aware of each’s other existence! We were always friends elementary through middle school, and we ran around with the same group of friends in high school. During the fall of our senior year of high school, we attended a concert together (this was the first time we had ever been anywhere one on one after years of going out in group settings) which essentially became our very first date. From that Dashboard Confessional acoustic concert in 2007 on, we were finally aware of each other’s existence :)

What do you love most about each other?

Amanda: What I love most about Tyler is his supportive and encouraging personality. He doesn’t take life too seriously, and he has the kindest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. Oh and his music skills and dimples don’t fall far behind on my list!

Tyler: What I love most about Amanda is that she is always smiling and enjoys the little things in life. I love that she isn’t afraid to be independent, and I love her love for the Lord.

What have you learned in your year of marriage?

What we’ve learned most about our one year of marriage is that is truly rocks to be married to your best friend. That and communication of course. We are best friends who communicate and there’s no better recipe for us!

We asked:

How did you two meet? Tell us your story.

We met while back-packing through Europe during the summer of 2010 at a hostel in Greece. We decided to travel together for a few days after that and island hopped through Greece. We both happened to be moving to London after the summer. We started dating in London, lived there for about a year and then moved to Vancouver in February 2012. We’ve been living here ever since.

Describe the proposal.

Proposal was a big surprise! I was drinking my coffee in bed one weekend morning (which is my favourite thing to do) and Robbie surprised me with a vintage engagement ring I had seen online a few months previously. The ring was from Australia so he had had it sent to his parents place who then sent it to him. I think his mum was happy to be involved and get to see the ring up close first. I have never met her before the wedding so it was nice she got to be a part of the whole proposal and share in the excitement.

What was your favorite memory about the proposal?

The fact that it was a surprise!

What’s your favorite thing to do as a family?

We love spending time together. My husband works very long hours so when he’s not working, we try to maximize our time as a family. We love walks at the parks, spending time at the library, swimming or anything fun for our daughter to explore.  We love introducing new things to her.  It brightens up our day seeing her uplifting face when she experiences something new.

What do you think makes a happy family?

Love each other, support one another and always make sure we have family quality time.

What three words best describe your family?

Happy. Loving. Blessed.

What’s your favourite thing to do as a family?

We like to be outside and go exploring for new places. Sometimes the kids ride their bikes while us parents run, maybe a 10 km trip just right through the forest and over some fields, whatever we find. Most days are a complete puzzle with the kids activities like soccer practice, floor ball, gymnastics, swimming, badminton and choirs. And in the middle of that fevers and flus. But we like it – we got each other!

What is your favourite family tradition?

We surprise each other every other Saturday, perhaps the boys prepare a three course meal for the family and the next time the girls do it and so on.

What’s the best thing about your family?

The best thing about our family is that together we are complete! A funny little brother that makes us all laugh, a thinking middle brother that make us wonder about things, and a considerate and talkative big sister that makes us listen, have quizzes and look at dance shows.

What three words best describe your family?

Closeness, Security, Love
