How did you two meet? Tell us your story.
Collin and I attended high school together, but did not meet until we both had graduated. Ironically however, we were in the same art class one year during high school, but did not know eachother, and never exchanged words. Collin was a grade above me and we had different groups of friends.
In January of 2009, I was living in Fullerton, attending my first year of college at California State University of Fullerton. Collin was living in Yucaipa, working for the United States Forest Service.
One night while I was bored in my dorm, I was on myspace (yes, myspace, it was that long ago…lol). I came across Collin’s profile and thought, “He’s cute! Who’s he?” I then remembered him from high school and decided to send him a “friend request”, what did I have to lose? To my surprise, he accepted it! We then began messaging each other back and forth and eventually exchanged phone numbers and began texting.
We ended up having mutual friends, my best friend, and roommate at the time, Rachel was friends with one of Collin’s friends, Matt. Rachel had plans to go home for a weekend and she told me that I should come because she was going to be hanging out with Matt, and maybe Collin would be there too. Although I was nervous to meet Collin, i decided to go.
Rachel and I ended up meeting Matt and Collin for a casual lunch at Chipotle. I was so nervous!! haha.
Collin and I talked and casually dated (some what on and off) for the next 8 months. He would come visit me in Fullerton on the weekends, which was always so exciting to me, I always looked forward to his visits, and dreaded him having to leave. I had strong feelings for Collin very early on, I just knew he was what i wanted. But, at that time, Collin wasn’t ready to become “boyfriend and girlfriend”. In May of 2009, at the end of my spring semester, I decided to move home from Fullerton.
In August of that year I went to Texas to visit my best friend Andrea. On my drive back, Collin texted me and asked if I wanted to go to Palm Springs for a night with him when i got back into town. I thought for sure we would finally make it official during our little get away. To my surprise, the conversation did not come up during our time in Palm Springs. So I got up the courage, and on our drive home, I brought it up….. we decided to make it official and become boyfriend and girlfriend, August 14, 2009, and have been together ever since!
Describe the proposal.
Collin proposed on Valentines Day (our first actual date was on Valentines Day in 2009). That morning he left a bouquet of yellow daisies in my car. When I got home from work later that day, Collin was already home and preparing dinner for us. He had the table set with candles, those little valentine candy hearts, the ones with the little sayings on them, and he had a glass of red wine poured for me. It was so nice! He made us avocado rolls for an appetizer (yum!!) and chicken with mashed potatoes (yum!!). Everything was perfect.
After we finished dinner, I volunteered to clean up (if you know me, you know I am quite the “cleaner” hehe). As I was putting away dishes, Collin said to me very casually, “Oh ya, I left a card for you in my truck, I’m going to go grab it”. He came back in and put the card on the table where I was previously sitting. He kept telling me to come read the card and that the cleaning could wait. I sat down next to him and opened the card. He had wrote a sweet note in side of it. The last sentence said “Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, and being my valentine for the rest of my life?”. I was in shock! As I looked up, Collin was on one knee with the ring in his hand, kinda shaky and totally beaming… and the rest, well I guess you can say is history!
What was your favorite memory about your proposal?
As “cheese ball” as it might sound, my favorite memory from the proposal was the look in Collin’s eyes, he was just beaming!! I have never seen his so nervous and excited at the same time! What a moment!!
What do you love most about each other?
She said: I love how Collin loves me. He is loyal and supportive, and works so hard to take good care of us. He doesn’t judge me, even when he sees me at my worst. And I love that every morning before he leaves for work, he gives me a couple kisses, even though I’m still half asleep
He said: “I love that she makes me a better person, she inspires me to be my best self, and supports me throughout it all”.
